Tom Pasqualini is a dedicated volunteer hunter who has participated in the deer management program (DMP) for over 12 years. Tom points out that the DMP is an important component of MRG’s work to keep the forest healthy. By keeping the herd in check, building exclosures to keep deer out, and re-planting forest plants, Mianus River Gorge has seen positive results.
Tom credits MRG with creating a DMP that works for everyone, including hunters who are looking for a trophy buck while also understanding the importance of forest conservation. Tom enjoys the camaraderie among the “good group of guys” and MRG staff. He also notes that MRG has a beautiful forest!
More recently he helped immensely during the post-season “cull” period of the DMP, which requires sitting in a tent in the woods, at night, in January and February for hours on end.
Tom has also lent our staff many pieces of field equipment, such as winches, carts, trail cameras, and shotguns when our staff is in need (i.e., have broken our own).
A self-described outdoors person, when Tom isn’t in the forest, he’s out on the water boating and fishing. He lives in West Harrison with his wife and son, and, having recently retired, we hope to see him even more frequently.
