Good News!

Good news! Fresh growth on the ancient hemlock trees indicates that, after two rounds of spraying for hemlock woolly adelgid, MRG’s treatment strategy is working.

The health of these hemlocks is vital. Hemlocks help keep the Mianus River–a drinking water supply– clean and cool for the people and wildlife that depend on it.

Today, we urgently need to raise $50,000 by September 30th to fund the third and final treatment developed by Cornell University’s NYS Hemlock Initiative.

To safeguard these historic trees, we need to fund the final phase of the essential treatment developed by Cornell University’s NYS Hemlock Initiative. This treatment, along with the introduction of beneficial biocontrol insects, is crucial to ensuring the health and longevity of our old-growth hemlocks.

Your donation today will directly support:

Monitoring Tree Health: Fresh growth on the ancient hemlocks shows that our treatment strategy is effective, thanks to your past support.

Tagging and Tracking: Using GIS technology, we precisely record each tree’s location, measure its trunk, and tag it for treatment.

Expert Application: We’ll engage Trillium Invasives Management, a certified pesticide applicator specializing in forest and aquatic environments, to apply the treatment.

Donations of $1,000, $2,500, $5,000 or your best gift by September 30th will help us reach our goal of $50,000, and will ensure these living treasures survive for you and future generations to enjoy.
