Project Description
Jason, along with fellow Class of 2013 WTPs Anahi Naranjo and Helen Russel, is participating in the largest wildlife study the Gorge has yet undertaken. MRGP researchers, along with researchers from the American Museum of Natural History, the Wildlife Conservation Society, WildMetro and Baruch College, are surveying over 20 parks in southern Westchester and NYC to determine occupancy patterns of urban coyotes. We are using this data to validate and build upon the coyote model originally developed by an earlier WTP Deborah Mack. Our final model will hopefully accurately predict where coyotes will be found in the future as they inevitably move through NYC and colonize Long Island. Jason’s research will focus on the sites in Manhattan and in the Bronx
