Please join us Wednesday evening, April 15, for the launch of 2026 Bedford Field Notes, our educational speaker series exploring the natural world in and around Bedford.

Following the sold-out success of all three programs last year, our new season opens April 15 at Bedford Historical Hall with a program on Birds, featuring Dr. Andrew Farnsworth of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and Budd Veverka, Director of Conservation & Stewardship at Mianus River Gorge, in conversation moderated by David Pogue, CBS Sunday Morning correspondent.

Birds are among the most visible and beloved wildlife in Bedford, offering a daily source of beauty, curiosity, and discovery. Dr. Farnsworth and Budd Veverka will explore how birds can serve as a powerful lens on the health of our landscapes—revealing the richness of local biodiversity, the importance of different habitats, and the many ways wildlife and human communities coexist. Drawing on research from the Cornell Lab and tools like eBird and Merlin, the conversation will show how careful observation—from backyard feeders to woodland trails—can deepen our understanding of the natural world.

The next two Bedford Field Notes events are May 7 (Forest) and June 3 (Bugs).
